John R. Gibson, Owner & Winemaker
John Gibson is one of the most known winemakers in the Napa Valley. His legendary reputation has been built over 30 years of distinguished winemaking for some of the Valley's best known wineries, and family owned vineyards.

John came to the Napa Valley in 1981 after graduating from the University of California at Davis with a degree in Enology. He took his first job as a lab technician and cellar worker at Chappellet Vineyards and Winery. His next step took him to Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. There he worked as the laboratory director, cellar master, and ultimately as associate winemaker to owner Warren Winiarski. He was responsible for the wines from the 1983 to 1993 vintages. John crafted famous small production such as the SLV, Fay, and Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignons.

In 1994, John took a position with Vine Cliff Winery as winemaker. There, he designed and built their winery as well as made them award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay. It was during this time that John started to make wine for smaller family-owned vineyards. Concluding that the best wines came from the best vineyards, John left Vine Cliff to start his own winemaking consulting business specializing in the production of vineyard designated varietals. His clients have included Alpha Wolf Vineyards, Andrew Geoffrey Vineyards, Beckstoffer Vineyards, Frazier Winery, Laraine Winery, Rockledge Vineyards, and Snowden Vineyards.

During his time making wine, John learned his attention to detail, fastidious cellar practices and honed his craft to near perfection. He was most inspired by the time spent in vineyards and wines produced in small quantities and hand crafted from grape to glass. This also provided the opportunity to work with vineyard owners to enhance their fruit and resulting wines. It is these practices that have given John the international recognition for making exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay.

While making wine for his clients, John never lost sight of his desire to produce his own wines. Cutting back on his clients so that John has more time for Salexis Wines, John continues to make the wines for Alpha Wolf Vineyards, Andrew Geoffrey Vineyards, and Four Winds Wines.
